Copenhagen’s reputation as a city for foodies and design lovers is not unwarranted – the influence of Noma and its following makes the Danish capital a gastronomic heaven, while the popularity of Nordic design means that whether you’re walking around town, visiting cultural landmarks or doing a bit of shopping, there will be lots to admire. No matter what your interest, Copenhagen has much to offer, whether it’s scenic day trips to neighbouring cities, walks in the park or even a visit to a retro amusement park.

When to go:
Nordic summers are perfect – Copenhagen never gets too hot, and in July the sun doesn’t set until almost 10pm. Winters have their charm, but the days are short and temperatures can be brutal.

How to get around:
With a bike population that exceeds its human one, Copenhagen is a cycling town, so even if you’re not riding, beware of those who are when crossing roads. Don’t bother with Uber – instead, you can hail a cab fairly easily in any district. There is a metro system that operates in the city centre.
