In a quaint heritage house dating from the 1920s, below the urban boutique retreat Sekeping Sin Chew Kee is a gin bar called Pahit. It means “sour” in Malay, named after the popular gin pahit drink made with bitters during the British colonial era. The bar is headed up by CK Kho, Bartender of the Year at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Bar Awards and also the man behind Coley in Bangsar, one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2018. Pahit stocks about 80 varieties of gin, mostly from the United Kingdom but also from America, Australia, Finland, Japan and Colombia. The gin-and-tonics are infused with local flavours like jackfruit, pomelo and assam boi (preserved plum). Customer favourites include the Pineapple Smash and the Coconut Clover Club.
