Tables at this tavern are installed in a manmade tunnel dating back to the Japanese Occupation. Most patrons here opt for shots of soju or cups of milky-white makgeolli – two popular types of Korean rice alcohol – though beer and wine are also served. It is de rigueur at this romantically illuminated grotto to order an accompanying dish, like the spicy braised monkfish with beansprouts. Note that Yongkkum closes at 10pm, which is early by local standards.
