Fuelling up
I spent a lot of time at the National Stadium, now part of the Singapore Sports Hub, for training and matches. For makan (eating), I head to nearby Upper Boon Keng Road Market and Food Centre (17 Upper Boon Keng Rd) for mutton soup at Soup Kambing Haji M. Abdul Razak (#01-03). I also like the mee rebus (yellow noodles in a spicy gravy) at P&Z Eating House (135 Geylang Rd).
Kitted out
Queensway Shopping Centre is the best place to buy sporting goods. Many of our local players head there for their gear – the prices are reasonable and you can bargain too.
Post-match play
Head to Marina Bay Sands for views of the city at night, from both the ground level and Skypark. The sight of the beautiful new and old buildings lit up makes me proud of my country. During the day, you can partake in all sorts of activities on Sentosa. I recommend Tanjong Beach – my favourite.
Just for kicks
To watch or play football with the locals, check out the futsal pitches at The Grandstand in Bukit Timah.
