City Guide
Seattle draws visitors with its lively neighbourhoods, a booming downtown and awe-inspiring waterfront views from the top of the city’s many formidable, heart-pumping hills. On a clear day, a looming Mount Rainier reminds everybody of nature’s power, though the inventive art museums and delicious Pacific Northwest cuisine are likely to distract you from the literal volcano in the backyard, at least some of the time. If you want to pay your respects to Mother Nature, the city’s beaches, forest parks and massive lakes will give you ample opportunities. However you spend your time in the city, you’re sure to have plenty of photogenic moments and an unforgettable time.
When to go
There’s no way around it, Seattle can be rainy much of the year. If you’d prefer to get the fairy-tale weather that locals live for (think blue skies and long sunny days), late June through September are your best bets.
How to get around
A light rail can take you from Tacoma International Airport to downtown. Buses are plentiful in the city and you won’t go wrong getting an ORCA card from a ticket vending machine if you plan on using public transportation. If you’re up for a workout, you can make your way through quite a few neighbourhoods on foot, though you’ll have to face some steep hills in the process. A car rental will give you the most flexibility, but you’ll have to pay for parking, which isn’t cheap.
