Completed in 2018 in Zabeel Park, the Dubai Frame was born out of a design competition initiated by the government, with the goal of creating a modern landmark for the city. Standing 150 meters tall, it is the globe’s largest frame structure, offering views of both modern skyscrapers and more traditional Arabic buildings, depending on which side of the piece one is standing. A bit of controversy adheres to the Frame, however: Although it was the brainchild of Mexican architect Fernando Donis, he was not involved in its execution and claims it to be “stolen.” Nevertheless, it remains a striking site celebrating the architectural evolution of a world-class city.
