Between October and April, visitors from around the world flock to Dubai for the famous camel races. The most prestigious track is Al Marmoom, roughly half an hour from the city. To beat the heat, the races are run in two sessions, one from 7 a.m. to 9 and the other after 2 p.m, and a single 10-kilometer meet might accommodate anywhere from 15 to 60 camels. There is also the sport of camel polo, which can be seen at the chic Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club.
