City Guide
To most, Zürich is a financial centre where everything runs like clockwork. In recent years, however, the city has taken cues from both well-travelled locals and its growing expat population to embrace the latest trends from around the world, from architecture and design to culture and gastronomy.
While first impressions might comprise clean streets and sharply attired bankers, a deeper look will reveal a lively social and cultural scene. Cropping up across the city are stimulating museums, hip restaurants and cool cafés, all of which are executed to Swiss perfection.
When to go:
Zürich is simply stunning all year round, with hot and balmy summers, and cold and snowy winters. But the warmer months (May to September) bring out the best in the city, with outdoor festivals like the annual Zürcher Theater Spektakel and lakeside activities aplenty, including the Ironman Triathlon and Limmat-schwimmen.
How to get around:
Public transport in Switzerland is among the best and most efficient in the world. The train, tram or bus (all covered under the same ticket) will deliver you to almost anywhere in Zürich. You can also get around on two wheels; there are various bike hire stations throughout the city and e-bikes are also fast becoming a popular option. Alternatively, you can explore the compact city centre on foot.
