Less than two hours from Colombo is Lunuganga, the country estate and residence of the late Geoffery Bawa, Sri Lanka’s most celebrated architect. In 1948, Bawa bought a rundown 4.8 hectare rubber estate and turned it into a lush garden over the next 40 years. Guided tours run every day at 11 am, 2 pm and 3 pm across the frangipani gardens that sit by the banks of Dedduwa Lake, but if you fancy, you can stay overnight at one of the rooms, including the Geffory Bawa Suite, decked with artwork and the architect’s library.
