One of Hong Kong’s two most beloved travel icons – along with the tram system – the Star Ferry has been criss-crossing the harbour since 1880. A ride on the old-world boats is incredible value for money at just S$0.40 per person, while the gently rocking waters, open sides and no-nonsense staff make it a quintessential Hong Kong experience. After all, the nearly 20 million passengers who hop on board every year can’t be wrong. Aim for a cruise at around 8pm to catch the nightly light show, which illuminates the harbour with lasers.
