Its KrisWorld IFE system has more than 1,600 on-demand selections that include movies, TV programmes and interactive games.
It is a feature that the Airline is constantly improving, with ongoing software upgrades that ensure seamless integration with the latest hardware platforms such as Panasonic Avionics’ eX3 system. The Airline has also progressively introduced a new-generation user interface that is more intuitive, with quicker access to content, for the Airbus A350 and selected Boeing 777-300ERs.
The Airline has always been a trendsetter; besides being the lead in offering personal entertainment consoles to all passengers, it was also among the first airlines that pioneered the use of satellite phones on board. Recently, it added another first to its record, becoming the first airline in the world to launch a companion app to remotely manage the IFE systems on board the Airbus A350 and selected Boeing 777-300ERs. This companion app is accessible through the SingaporeAir app that can be downloaded from both the App Store and Play Store.
The companion app enables passengers to review the content that will be available on their upcoming flights and create favourites lists while still on the ground. On boarding, passengers can launch and control playback of their favourite content, directly from their own phones and tablets. Passengers can also view real-time flight paths on their devices without interrupting playback on the seat-back monitors. The app, which was conferred the Air Transport World (ATW) Onboard Experience Award, is compatible with iOS and Android devices.
Paying heed to passengers’ desire to be connected at all times, the Airline offered inflight connectivity services from September 2012. Passengers can now surf the Internet, send and receive e-mails on smartphones and other electronic devices, as well as send and receive text messages with GSM-compatible mobile phones. This convenience is offered only on the Airbus A380 and A350, and Boeing 777-300ER.
With these entertainment and connectivity options to keep you occupied and up to date with the goings-on in the world, there’s never a dull moment on board Singapore Airlines.
