The city’s beloved Museum of Modern Art recently spent three full years tripling its gallery space, partially to make room for Gap founders Doris and Donald Fisher’s vast 20th-century art collection – including works by photorealist portraitist Chuck Close and sculptor Alexander Calder. Matisse paintings, Arbus photographs and a rooftop sculpture garden are also big draws.
