The Southbank is the waterfront place to be in Melbourne, with locals and tourists flocking to its many restaurants and bars, or for an evening stroll amongst fire displays and street entertainers. Beer lovers will find the Belgian Beer Café at the base of Eureka Tower a haven.
There is a 120-strong list of Belgian, European and Australian beers, either on tap or by the bottle (listed in a large red book which is fun to peruse in its own right). Try the Boon Kriek cherry sour, or for something stronger, the 11.5% Delirium Black barrel-aged dark ale. Perch up at the bar or the European-style terrace on a sunny day.
