To mark the delivery milestone, a special ceremony was held in Toulouse and attended by Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong and Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders.
“Today’s delivery shows just how far Airbus has come over the decades. On behalf of the staff and management of Singapore Airlines, I would like to congratulate Airbus for reaching this incredible milestone,” said Goh.
Enders added: “We are especially proud to celebrate this milestone with Singapore Airlines – one of our longest-standing customers and a true partner. Today, the SIA Group operates aircrafts from across our complete product line and with the highest levels of technical excellence. There is no better endorsement for our products and we thank the entire SIA Group for its ongoing confidence, partnership and support.”
The airline’s first order with Airbus, the A300B4, dates back to 1979.
The latest addition to the Singapore Airlines fleet, the A350-900, was flown to Singapore by Captain Aloysius Wee, who has been with Singapore Airlines for 24 years.
“This is a huge milestone for Airbus and the aviation industry. I’m humbled and privileged to be part of this team taking delivery of the 10,000th Airbus aircraft,” said Wee.
The aircraft features a special “10,000th Airbus Aircraft” logo and will be used for the inaugural non-stop flight between Singapore and San Francisco later in October.
