Salad meets bara chirashi at this Telok Ayer shop, with two generous scoops of salmon poke (the Hawaiian version of tuna tartare) over a base of brown rice, sushi rice and rocket leaves. Pomegranate seeds, pineapple chunks, edamame, walnuts, almonds, corn, and ebiko add texture and colour. The sashimi lovers in our team couldn’t stop raving about what an awesome idea this poke bowl is. You can also ask to switch your poke to the spicy version.

Guacamole is the name of the game at this salad bar opened by two avocado devotees who aim to spread the word about the superfood’s healthful properties. We love that this salad is every bit as hearty as it sounds. The romaine lettuce base is heaped with chunks of sweet potato, Cajun chicken cubes, lentils, tomato salsa, almonds, and of course – a giant helping of guacamole. It filled us up!

You get tender shreds of slow-roasted chicken (yes, even the chicken breast is moist) and a Mexican medley of beans, and we relished the crunch and snap from the walnuts, cashews, sliced almonds, broccoli, asparagus spears and edamame. You’ll appreciate that the carbohydrates in this salad – roasted bell peppers and quinoa – rank low on the glycaemic index, so you’re less likely to suffer an energy slump.
