Singapore Ranked Best Street Food City in the World

Apr 24, 2015

A US website has named Singapore the number one street food city in the world.

Thrillist.com, part of a New York-based lifestyle digital media group, compiled reviews from avid travellers and combined them with research on cultural food traditions to derive this result.

Recommended street food dishes from Singapore are Hainanese chicken rice (pictured), fish head curry and oyster omelette, among others. Other Asian cities on the list include Mumbai at number 6 with their chaat and kebabs, Ho Chi Minh City with pho and bahn mi (baguette sandwiches) at number 4, and Bangkok with pad Thai and mango sticky rice coming in second after Singapore.

Surprisingly, Asian cities popular for their street food are noticeably missing from this ranking. Taipei and Hong Kong, which are known for their night markets and wide variety of street food, do not appear on the list.

Besides Asia, the ranking includes cities across the continents such as Europe, South America and the Middle East.

Here’s the complete list:

1. Singapore

2. Bangkok, Thailand

3. Mexico City, Mexico

4. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

5. Marrakesh, Morocco

6. Mumbai, India

7. Shanghai, China

8. Berlin, Germany
