Seaplane surf safaris, stargazing and more: Top 10 reasons to visit the Maldives

You probably don’t need much convincing about holidaying in paradise. Here’s a list of why we think you should go.

1. The beaches are magnificent

First up, we must have a moment for Maldives’ marvellous stretches of soft, chalk-white sand and warm cyan seas. Most of the 1,200 islands scattered across different atolls boast pristine beaches (above), which you’ve probably seen in brochures and guidebooks, but no picture or description ever quite does them justice.

2. The marine life is spectacular

From moray eels to manta rays, shoals of silvery fish to whale sharks, and everything in between – the variety of underwater life (above) is rich and diverse, meaning the Maldives is arguably one of the best spots for snorkelling or diving. Explore the shallows with their coral gardens and reefs or, if you’re more daring, dive deep below the surface in search of what (or who) lurks beneath.

3. You can eat, dance and visit a spa underwater

That’s right – submerged locales are all the rage at resorts in the Maldives. Some of these include an all-glass eatery at the Conrad’s Ithaa Undersea Restaurant (above), Per Aquum Niyama’s Subsix – the first club set below sea level – and the underwater Lime Spa at Huvafen Fushi.
