1. A journey through cinematic history
The 1940s heritage-listed Art Deco building was originally Paramount Picture Studios’ Sydney headquarters. Relive the era’s glamour at the on-site Golden Age Cinema and Bar, where the studio’s former screening room has been beautifully restored. Watch a classic or cult flick while sipping on an Old Fashioned or a martini.
2. A mix of old and new
From the light-filled lobby atrium to the hip rooms, Paramount House Hotel feels a bit like a local designer’s home. Heritage features – such as high ceilings and timber beams – meld seamlessly with fresh and contemporary elements: terrazzo tiles, indoor plants and stunning Japanese bathtubs made from native blackbutt wood.
3. Stunning, original artworks in every room
China Heights, an artist-run gallery located just a two-minute walk away, curated artworks for each of the hotel’s 29 rooms. Several commissions are among the collection, which includes street art, photography, comics, paintings and tapestries. Keep an eye out for the Paramount llama, a character created for the hotel by Sydney-based artist Marty Baptist.
4. Custom-made furnishings by Australian designers
From luxurious merino wool blankets made in Tasmania to tree-stump tables handcrafted in New South Wales and hardwood bedframes built in Melbourne, Paramount House is filled with locally made creations. This extends to the minibar, which is stocked with homegrown treats like Victorian Pinot Noir and marshmallows handmade in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
5. A coffee lover’s paradise
Owners Russell Beard, Mark Dundon and Ping Jin Ng met through their love of good coffee. Between them, they’re responsible for some of Australia’s best cafés, including Seven Seeds and Reuben Hills. It’s no surprise, then, that the hotel’s foyer houses an impressive café in the form of Paramount Coffee Project. Guests can even have single-origin coffee and avocado toast with Vegemite, sesame and cashew butter delivered right to their door.
6. Fine-dining in the comfort of your room
Speaking of room service, guests will be able to order delectable dishes from Ester – one of Sydney’s best fine-dining restaurants, in nearby Chippendale – which opened a spin-off eatery on the hotel’s ground floor just last month. The menu includes creative delights driven by local and seasonal produce, such as roasted rock oyster with sake and pepperberry.
