India’s capital city of New Delhi is the epitome of living history. Ruins of ancient monuments stand right in the midst of skyscrapers. Delhi – or Dilli, as it is referred to locally – has a history dating back at least 2,500 years. It is said that the modern city that exists today was built upon the remains of no less than eight cities from various dynasties over the centuries.
Delhi is one of India’s greenest hubs, evident in the dozens of parks and gardens in every neighbourhood. In many ways, it is also the cultural capital of India and hosts concerts, exhibitions and literary events throughout the year.
The city has some of the best street food in the country, and residents are known to be intrepid in their quest for the best chaat (savoury snacks) and kebab (meat skewers). This is a city that knows the value of the good life.
