500 participants are expected to take part in this year’s games that will see wounded, injured and ill servicemen and servicewomen from 18 nations compete in 11 adaptive sports. 20–27 October
3. FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, Japan
Play like a girl? You bet. Two dozen women’s volleyball teams, including the United States and Brazil, will compete in this championship taking place across six cities in Japan, including Nagoya, Osaka and Yokohama. Through 20 October
4. World Taekwondo Grand Prix, Manchester
You’ll get a kick out of watching this taekwondo contest, where over 250 men and women will compete across eight weight classes. The winners won’t only get bragging rights; they’ll also earn valuable ranking points that may help them qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games. 19–21 October
5. BNP Paribas WTA Finals, Singapore
2018 will mark the last year that Singapore hosts the premier women’s tennis championships. Head on down to the Singapore Indoor Stadium to watch big-name players like Sloane Stephens and Simona Halep battle it out on court for an ace finale. 21–28 October
6. World Series, United States
This year’s Major League Baseball season comes to a head with the top two teams laying claim to the championship. Last year’s edition between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros saw a record combined 25 home runs throughout the seven-game series. From 23 October
