Best local speciality
“Seafood is one of my favourites, especially lobster. When you cook the shell of the lobster, it smells a little sweet. Add a little alcohol and the whole room fills with that creamy, intense flavour. Mefisto is a very good and affordable place to try it.”
“The Aarhus Street Food event has a nice atmosphere. It’s in the old bus terminal and puts in heaters in winter. Everybody eats together at long tables and it’s a very good place to meet local people.”
Best for a posh meal
“Frederikshoj is not just posh, it’s also really good. Whenever there’s a gathering of the best chefs in Denmark, they go there. The food is based on great local produce.”
Best for something unusual
“My personal favourite is Restaurant Haervaerk. It’s playful and Nordic. In summer for example, you may get a dehydrated cucumber, grilled and served like a hot dog.”
