These three restaurants were recently honoured in the James Beard Awards which highlight culinary achievements in the United States. Be sure to take a wander to these neighbourhood destinations the next time you visit New York for a chance to sample their award-winning cuisine.
1. Lilia
Lilia’s head chef and owner Missy Robbins went home with the title of “Best Chef: New York City”. Diners at her Italian restaurant in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighbourhood can sample everything from hand crafted pastas like ricotta gnocchi with broccoli pesto, basil and pistachios to wood fired seafood like grilled swordfish with marinated sweet and hot peppers and mint. Sip on classic Italian cocktails while you dine.
2. De Maria
Located in Nolita, all-day-dining restaurant De Maria won “Outstanding Restaurant Design” for its interior crafted by design firm the MP Shift. Food-wise, you’ll find New American favourites with a healthy spin, like chocolate avocado cake and grain bowls filled with watermelon radish, pickled goji berries and turmeric-poached eggs. Both their daytime and nighttime menus present local ingredients with both light bites and hearty options.
