Set at the junction of Cairnhill Road and Orchard Road is the retail destination that is Design Orchard. It’s here that you’ll find over 60 homegrown labels ranging from apparel to leather bags, skincare and handcrafted candles.
The mix of brands is curated by local retailer Naiise, which operates the 836m2 showcase boutique. “We hold a yearly open call and invite brands to participate,” says Naiise founder Dennis Tay, adding that this keeps things fresh.
Brands on offer include Onlewo, a textile label that creates Singapore-inspired fabric designs; Re:erth, a cruelty-free skincare line; and Kydra, a stylish activewear label.
From February, even more local labels will be added to the showcase. There are also plans to offer more in-store experiences to create further engagement between brands and shoppers.
But Design Orchard is more than just a retail space. A project spearheaded by Enterprise Singapore, JTC and Singapore Tourism Board to nurture emerging local design talent, the building also houses an incubation space for local designers and an events area on the rooftop.
Naiise runs a mentorship programme to help homegrown labels gain access to industry veterans and business leaders. “We hope that this will help develop the brands under Design Orchard during their time in the showcase and after ‘graduating’ from it,” Tay says.
