Throughout the years it has played host to creative greats like Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene and Somerset Maugham, while during more turbulent times, it protected guests like Jane Fonda and Joan Baez from air raids in its bomb shelter, which was reopened in 2012 for guests to visit on the hotel’s Path of History tour.
