From jazz on Wednesday evenings to monthly pho nights, frequent events at Smalls pull in the city’s writers, painters, musicians and bartenders. It also helps that Smalls was founded by French artist Bruno Tanquerel and nightlife luminary David Jacobson (the man behind the famed, now defunct Q Bar). The duo has eschewed trends and instead filled the space with red curtains, Goldenrod lighting, Rococo tiles and well-placed pieces of contemporary art, developing a Parisian-hideaway vibe in the process.
