In the 19th century, the lush hillsides of Maokong on the city’s southern end were transformed into a thriving area for tea production. The village is now acclaimed as a highly atmospheric place to imbibe locally grown tea, with several teahouses, eateries and cafés perched against a stunning backdrop of city views. The area is typically reached via a scenic 4km ride in one of Maokong’s sky gondolas – daredevils can book a glass-bottomed cabin for an extra, vertigo-inducing thrill. You can board a gondola from any of the four stations along the route, all in the Wenshan district.
