With a concrete and wood interior that pulls together the most stylish elements of a local public housing void deck, Side Door pays homage to its creators’ original four-seater private dining concept, which they used to run out of their own apartment. Award-winning mixologist Bannie Kang and her husband Tryson Quek continue to create laidback, intimate dining experiences in this charmingly informal bar and restaurant. Drinks at Kang’s hand are dangerously smooth; the Non-Fruit Beer, her personal favourite, is a too-easy blend of whisky, fernet and Korean Barley. Make sure to pair this with Quek’s excellent fried chicken wings with chilli and cumin. The food menu is populated by hearty, bar-friendly bites like this. Highlights include the blue lipped mussels served with grilled sourdough and the Angus beef tartare with yuzu sorbet.
