You know a Nala when you see one. It could be a dress, a tote bag, a cushioned stool or a notepad – they’re all distinguishable via their cheery, vibrant patterns inspired by Malaysia’s natural and cultural heritage, particularly Peranakan culture. Nala is the creation of Lisette Scheers, a Singapore-born Dutch woman who has lived most of her life in Malaysia. With a background in graphic design and advertising, she creates and draws the patterns herself by hand. Named after Scheers’ daughter, Nala’s flagship store is located at the Bangsar Village II shopping mall, with a warehouse and showroom located along Jalan Hang Kasturi in the heart of the city.
