Dating back to the third century, the Sumiyoshi shrine, which features straight thatched roofs and elegant red lacquered fencing, is a rare surviving example of Japanese religious architecture before the introduction of Buddhism. At the main entrance, the arch of the Sorihashi Bridge soars over a picturesque pond, creating a particularly beautiful spot for reflection.
