Located in Ubud, the cultural heart of the island, Goa Gajah (or the Elephant Cave) is said to date all the way back to the 11th century. The temple is adorned with both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, with the reliefs of demons and other menacing-looking creatures a definite highlight. The nearby bathing pools and water spouts were only excavated in the 1950s.
