Many cafés have graced Kandal Village since its inception, but none wields the cultural cachet of The Little Red Fox Espresso, a bastion of hip halfway down Hup Guan Street that supports Cambodian art in its many guises. It has hosted music talks, art exhibitions, film screenings and even vintage fashion sales while maintaining impeccable eco-credentials and fostering community spirit among both Cambodians and expats.
There’s much to admire in its ethos, which is encapsulated in unmissable portraits of iconic singers Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Serey Sothea, who perished during the Khmer Rouge genocide, and a health-conscious, locally sourced menu including colourful, inventive salad bowls and superior muffins. And don’t forget the coffee, which even in caffeine-crazed Siem Reap is among the finest.
