From a NASA exhibition in Singapore and Amsterdam’s annual light festival, to a costume display in Melbourne celebrating Kylie Minogue’s career, here are some of the most interesting global events to mark in your calendar during December and January.
TILL JAN 1
Singapore’s biggest Yuletide fair returns to Gardens by the Bay for its second year. See magnificent light sculptures and pick up Christmas goodies at the Festive Market (above), while the young ones amuse themselves on the 24m-long ice slide inside the Ice Palace.

NASA – A HUMAN ADVENTURE
See the milestones in human space exploration at this exhibition at the ArtScience Museum. Among the artefacts are items that have been flown to space and back – including a pinball machine – from the time of NASA’s first space rocket launch to the present day.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN LITTLE INDIA
Learn about the history and evolution of Singapore’s Little India neighbourhood at this exhibition at the Indian Heritage Centre. On display are historical artefacts, plus art installations such as The Weighing Scale, which features three tonnes of saga seeds.

KYLIE ON STAGE
See dazzling costumes, dating back to 1989, created by international designers Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld. This exhibition, which celebrates Australian singer Kylie Minogue’s (above) career, is being held at Arts Centre Melbourne.

AMSTERDAM LIGHT FESTIVAL
View outsized artworks on the water by boat, or follow a walking route with interactive installations. These are among the creations by international artists, architects and light designers, which are being displayed along two routes in the Dutch capital for this fifth edition of the annual event.
BANGALORE LITERATURE FESTIVAL
Taking place at Hotel Royal Orchid, the annual event in India’s Garden City is sure to attract bibliophiles with its panel discussions hosted by distinguished local and international writers. This year, expect film screenings and, as always, book sales.
LONDON BOAT SHOW
For the latest in watercraft innovation and boating products, make your way to ExCel London in the London Docklands. Chat to as many as 300 exhibitors and learn from the experts at an interactive panel. You can also try the newest water-sports trends at the adjacent Watersports Park.
THE BPM FESTIVAL
Head to Playa del Carmen, where this world-class electronic music festival (above) celebrates its 10th year with a series of day and night parties. Expect sets from Lebanese-Nigerian DJ Nicole Moudaber and names from Berlin label Keinemusik.
NAPA TRUFFLE FESTIVAL
America’s best truffle chefs and experts in cultivation meet at this event, which returns for its sixth outing in California’s Napa Valley. Aside from tasting delicious cuisine that features the prized fungus, watch cooking demonstrations, shop at gourmet market stalls and say hello to truffle-hunting dogs.
