Singapore Airlines’ partnership with Virgin Australia has received the go ahead from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The approval means the two airlines can proceed with wide-ranging plans to connect SIA’s global network with Virgin Australia’s numerous Australian and Pacific destinations. The alliance is good news for customers of both airlines, who can now earn and redeem frequent-flyer miles on SIA and Virgin Australia flights. Starting early 2012, the two airlines will also be able to codeshare on each other’s international and domestic flights. Other benefits include coordinating flight schedules between Singapore, Australia and beyond for more seamless connections for customers, and access to more airport lounges.
