From February 28, 2011, SilkAir, Singapore Airlines’ regional wing, will launch three-times weekly flights to Pekanbaru in Sumatra, Indonesia. A major gateway into Indonesia from Singapore, the bustling trade centre is a favourite pitstop for those heading further inland in Sumatra as well as to the rest of the country. For leisure travellers, Pekanbaru’s draws include the Riau Cultural Park and Sang Nila Utama Museum, and traditional markets like Pasar Pusat, which is popular with foodies.

Subject to regulatory approvals, SilkAir will operate morning services between Singapore and Pekanbaru on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is the 34th destination in SilkAir’s route network and its eighth Indonesian destination.
