New waterside properties worth discovering.

1. Paradise Island

Opening in Maldives this month is Dusit Thani on Mudhdhoo Island in Baa Atoll, just 40 minutes by seaplane from the capital. Each of its 100 villas (right) is equipped with mod cons like free Internet and Bose sound systems, but it’s the outdoor facilities that really impress – the Devarana Spa boasts treetop treatment pods reached by a sky bridge, while the hotel’s 750 sq m swimming pool is touted as the largest in the Maldives.

2. Pop-up Luxury

Design Hotels has recently unveiled its new, on-trend pop-up project Papaya Playa in Tulum, Mexico. It consists of 99 rustic beach cabanas (right) installed along a 900m stretch of the Mayan Riviera, where guests can tap into the area’s lush jungle setting while indulging in high thread-count sheets and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. There’s also a spa that incorporates Mayan shamanism and organic food offerings by Copenhagen-based 42°Raw. Open till May 5.
