It may be the sweet-toothed who flock to Janice Wong’s dessert bar, but when it comes to exploring the best of Singapore, the award-winning chef’s personal favourites have mass appeal.

WHAT GETS YOUR TASTEBUDS GOING?

My all-time favourite place is Krish at Rochester Park. The decor is very old-school – it is in an old black-and-white bungalow, so it is a little like going back in time. I love its Indian fusion cuisine and modern desserts, and the restaurant has also just launched a new menu, with signatures like the Malabar prawn bisque. On the eve of Deepavali (October 25), there will be a special festive menu and live entertainment.

WHO DOES THE PERFECT COCKTAIL?

I love the Tippling Club at Dempsey. It’s experimental, casual and has a great terrace – especially perfect since October brings cooler, balmy weather. Sip on the Smokey Old Bastard (smokey whisky, sweet tobacco, orange smoke). Tippling Club changes its cocktail menu every month, so there is always something new to try.

WHAT ABOUT AN INTERESTING LOCAL HOTEL?

Definitely Wanderlust on Little India’s Dickson Road. Each of the 29 rooms in this boutique hotel features original works by award-winning local design agencies.

WHAT’S A NOT-TO-BE-MISSED EVENT IN SINGAPORE THIS MONTH?

If the timing is right, check out Ritz-Carlton’s biannual brunch experience, SuperBrunch – SuperInspired. This year, it’s on October 16 and features five locally-based chefs including yours truly. I’m showcasing the Kayambe H20, which is made with 72 per cent chocolate and Evian water. If you miss the brunch, you can savour it at 2am:dessertbar.
