The recent opening of glittering ultra lounge Pangaea puts Singapore firmly on the international party circuit. ESTHER AU YONG embraces the glamour.

Singapore made its mark among nightclub royalty with last month’s launch of her very own Pangaea, the legendary ultra lounge that became a celebrity (read: the likes of Madonna, Kate Moss and Will Smith) favourite in leading cities like New York and London. Set on the first floor of the Crystal Pavilion (above) at Marina Bay Sands, the 6,000 sq ft club was created at an estimated cost of US$75 million. Says founder Michael Ault, “We’ve taken the idea of an African tribal safari camp and transformed it into a super slick and sophisticated modern interpretation.” Clubbers can expect touches such as ostrich and crocodile skin banquettes, a large collection of ancient tribal masks and zebra skin-topped bars. The club’s music selection is a riot of a party too. The club promotes the Open Format genre – a combination of jazz, R&B, classics, hip hop, house and others. This eclectic combination for the eyes, ears and soul is complemented by Pangaea’s world-class service. Partying at Pangaea starts at 10pm, from Thursday to Saturday, and ends only when the sun comes up.

OLDIE BUT GOLDIE

Clubbing diehards must not miss Zouk, a stalwart of the local nightlife scene. Having turned 20 in April this year, the internationally known, Singapore-born hotspot is still going strong, promoting dance music culture (right) and local DJs.
